Guinness Sponsor ten day Irish Festival Tradfest in South Manchester
Guinness has joined forces with the Levenshulme Pub Company and Mayo.ie to help sponsor a special ten day Tradfest in South Manchester for this years 2013 Manchester Irish Festival. The event which is one of the highlights of this years’ Manchester Irish Festival runs from Friday 8 March to Monday 18 March and features over one hundred artists, musicians, singers and dancers.
Highlights include a special Mayo weekend which will celebrate the very best of the West of Ireland’s Musicians and Dancers. The weekend will run from Friday 8 March until Sunday 10 March and features the Connioras group from County Mayo, who have just come back from a sell out tour of America.
With close to forty events being staged in the LPC’s four flagship venues in Levenshulme and Burnage, there is something different to enjoy on every day of the festival. All but five of the events are free of charge and the events where there is a charge the admission charge has been heavily subsidised.
Lawrence Hennigan the Irish company director of LPC, whose business has been supporting the Irish Arts in Manchester since 1989 said “We wanted to do something special to celebrate the 2013 Gathering in Ireland and our Manchester-Mayo Gathering which takes place in August, the line up is fantastic. I am really looking forward to Ríoghnach Connolly and her debut with ‘The Black Lung Project’ on Monday 11 March and Ged Graham’s tribute to ‘Christy Moore’ with the world premiere of his ‘King Puck’ show with Dave Thom on Thursday 14 March.”
“The ten day tradfest features the very best of contemporary and traditional Irish culture which reflects the founding principal of the company which has always tried to support both elements.”
Cultural highlights include a special photographic exhibition called ‘Take Me Back to Attymass’, which has attracted world wide attention and features the work of photographers from as far away as New York. It is being sponsored by Mayo.ie, the Western People and the Catholic Universe.
Other Festival highlights include a special Leeds v Manchester Irish music session with ALL FM radio’s Full Irish Radio show on Wednesday 13 March, Claire Mooney kick starts the St Patrick’s weekend celebrations on Friday 15 March, whilst Denise Morgan from the BBC’s The Voice headlines the Dylanfest on St Patrick’s Eve on Saturday 16 March. The Tradfest is brought to a close on St Patrick’s Day with special tradfest concerts and sessions in all of the company’s venues from 12 noon until the cows come home.

One of the livelier venues on the Levenshulme bar scene, the m19 bar and venue regularly hosts live music and other events on the first floor.
A good selection of cocktails and drinks, a late licence and party nights with music from the legendary DJ Tommy Dee make this a popular bar in Levenshulme.
