BBC Star brings a Taste of Ireland to m19 Bar Food and Drink Festival
A taste of Ireland launches Food and Drink Festival in Levenshulme
Levenshulme village in South Manchester which is home to one of the biggest Irish Diaspora Communities in the UK is staging ‘A Taste of Ireland’ event to help launch its annual Levy FadFest (Levenshulme Food and Drink Festival)
The event takes place on Sunday 14 June in the first floor theatre of at m19bar and music venue on Stockport Road right in the heart of the village. The early evening concert which starts at 7.30pm features tributes to Riverdance, Lord of the Dance and Celtic Feet performed by a cast of forty musicians, dancers and singers.
Headlining the event is Irish singer, dancer and musician – Joe Keegan from the hit BBC TV series The Voice. Joe will be having a very busy Sunday as he is spearheading the Manchester Irish Festival float in the Manchester Day Parade in front of an estimated crowd of 100,000 during the day before heading off to Levenshulme for the Food Festival event.
Other Performers appearing in the concert which starts promptly at 7.30pm include: The Celtica Irish Dance troupe, The Gillies Mar Jan Irish Dancers, plus Fidelma O'Brien on fiddle, Tom Meehan on banjo and The Fiddle playing Langan Sisters.
Tickets for the gig are just £4 in advance from Fred's Ale House in Levenshulme or online at Skiddle or £5 on the door. The concert takes place in the first floor performance space at m19 bar in Levenshulme on Stockport Road, just next door to Fred's Ale House.
The 2015 Levy Fadfest (Levenshulme Food and Drink Festival) runs from Friday 12 June until Sunday 21 June and features over 75 Food, Drink and Cultural events in and around Levenshulme village, most of which are free of charge. From Pop Up restaurants, themed music nights, live Radio broadcasts plus Beer and Cider Festivals along with Parched Tea Tasting there is something to tempt every palette and pocket.
Other highlights include ‘A taste of Achill Food Festival’ and ‘Mayo Day’ exhibition which features photographs taken during the annual Féile na Mara (Festival of the Sea) and the world wide inaugural Mayo Day which took place around the globe on Saturday 2 May.
The Achill Exhbition will take place in the Union Irish Bar on Stockport Road in Levenshulme and Fred’s Art Gallery next door will host the Mayo Day exhibition. The events are being sponsored by the Manchester Mayo Tourism and Business group.
Tony Hennigan the CEO of the group said “I was lucky enough to attend the Féile na Mara last year as a guest of the fabulous Achill Head Hotel and Achill Tourism, it’s a fabulous festival and this year has been extended to run all through July. We are also using the events to promote our forthcoming Mayo Manchester Tradfest which takes place in Mayo from Friday 31 July until Wednesday 5 August in and around Ballina.”
